How the lumpsum calculator works
A lumpsum investment is a single amount invested for a chosen period. The Lumpsum Calculator estimates its future value using the principal, an assumed annual rate of return and the number of years. It then separates the original investment from estimated gains so the effect of compounding is visible.
The formula multiplies the principal by one plus the annual return, compounded once for each year. Because the full amount is invested from the start, every rupee has the same time to compound. The result is sensitive to both the rate and duration, and neither input represents a guaranteed market outcome.
For example, a one-time investment of Rs 1 lakh held for 10 years at an assumed annual return of 10% produces an estimated future value of about Rs 2.59 lakh. The estimated gain is about Rs 1.59 lakh before any applicable costs or taxes. Different returns or holding periods will produce different results.
Comparing a shorter period and a lower assumed return can show how dependent the projection is on time and compounding.
Frequently asked questions
- Does the calculator assume annual compounding?
- Yes. It applies the entered annual rate once for each year in the selected investment period.
- Is the estimated future value guaranteed?
- No. It is a mathematical projection based on an assumed rate, while actual investment values can rise or fall.
- Does the result include taxes and charges?
- No. Product costs and personal tax treatment are not included, so the amount received may differ from the displayed estimate.
